01.04.08 Enzo picks up the pieces
By Anders Gomez
The big Swansea cruiserweight looks to don the gloves in the next couple of months and get back on the saddle following his devastating 2 round knock out loss to David Haye last month at London's o2 Arena in front of a packed crowd and thousands of TV viewers worldwide.
His options are plentiful now that Haye has finally departed the division and behind him he leaves his WBC, WBA and Enzo's old title, the WBO.
Fighter's interested in the match up include David Haye's sparring partner BJ Flores from the States, who has made his desire to fight the Welshman known throughout the boxing media. Sporting a record of 21 straight wins with 13 by way of KO, Ben Flores has fought mixed opposition with his best win coming in his last fight against knockout merchant Darnell 'ding a ling' Wilson (points win).
“I’m targeting a return early in the summer,” said Maccarinelli. “I’m very disappointed to have lost to David Haye, but life moves on, and you just have to try and come back from these things.
“I’ve spoken to Frank Warren about getting back in the ring as soon as possible, and he’s fully behind me.
“I’d love to become a world champion again and I’ve got every confidence that will happen before the end of the year.”
LiveFight expects Enzo to probably take a confidence-builder before making a play for any of the vacant titles.
The big fight left at Cruiserweight, now Haye has departed, would be Steve 'USS' Cunningham who has blazed his way through good opponents both home and abroad. His last win came via stoppage in Germany against tough unbeaten Marco Huck.
