04.03.08 Holyfield closes in on Tyson

Evander Holyfield has admitted to Setanta Sports News that there is a "great chance" that he will fight Mike Tyson for a third time.

The Real Deal triumphed in his two previous meetings with Tyson, winning via an 11th-round knockout in November, 1996 before being awarded victory in the rematch just over six months later when Iron Mike was disqualified for biting part of his ear off.

With both men now well past their prime - Holyfield is 45, while Tyson is 41 - there would appear to be little reason for a third encounter.

However, Holyfield has revealed that both parties are interested in making it happen.

"We’re just talking at the moment, just talking about the situation and trying to see if it’s possible. But there’s a great chance it will happen," he revealed in an exclusive interview with Setanta Sports News.

“If the fight happens, and I win, it would be put me in a position where I could demand a title shot.

"The other fighters in the division don’t really want to face me. They’re thinking, ‘why should I take such a big risk?’

"But after a fight with Mike Tyson, I could be like, ‘look how much money we made’.

"They would have to be interested in the fact that a non-championship fight would be making a lot of money. It’d show them that they might be a champ but they’re not the draw. I'd be the man making the money."

However, Holyfield insisted that he is not motivated by financial gain and that his desire to once again reach the summit of world boxing is more about glory and making history.

"I still love boxing. I’m going to be the heavyweight champion of the world again," he declared.

"You can't quit. You may not get there when you want to but you will get there.”
