06.04.08 Warren - Jon Thaxton does not interest us now

According to Frank Warren's site column, Jon Thaxton no longer features in Khan's plans.

This statement has hardly been a surprise to the boxing community as it would seem that Amir has only fought opponents who could 'not crack an egg' according to some fierce critics.

The Danish opponent last night only had 5ko wins on his record out of 25 fights contested and was on nobody's 'one to watch list.

Infact the true form of Kristjansen was spelled out in his last fight against unknown Mircea Lurci (13W 12L)in his homeland which was a dull 6 round split decision affair.

Yuri Romanov

Ranked 68 on the Boxrec stat system the Dane does not compare with the true talent of Romanov who ranked ranks at no4 (2 spaces above Amir himself) and is also ranked No2 in the respected WBA rankings.

Warren stated that, following Thaxton's defeat against Yuri Romanov on Friday in a European title fight, the contest was no longer attractive.

"It's a pointless fight," said Warren. "What does Thaxton have to offer, and what does Amir have to prove by beating Jon Thaxton?

"I just hope the brains trust around Thaxton can look him in the eye and explain to him why he is tens of thousands of pounds out of pocket.

"We offered him £125,000 to fight Amir, but instead he fought Romanov and got the crap beaten out of him in front of 600 people for less than half that amount.

"He got a bad cut and also has to defend his British title, and he doesn't fit in with our plans any more."

Khan added: "Thaxton was offered a lot of money but didn't take the chance. I'm not going to wait around for him.

"I still believe that I am good enough to fight for a world title, and I remain on course to do that."

Let's hope that Khan fights someone of Romanov's caliber in his next fight then, if Thaxton is no longer a 'good enough challenge' - although many would strongly disagree.
