11.01.08 Roy Jones eyes Joe Calzaghe

Roy Jones is targeting a showdown with Joe Calzaghe - but only if he beats Felix Trinidad and the Welshman overcomes Bernard Hopkins.

Jones is brimming with confidence ahead of his Madison Square Garden showdown with Trinidad on January 19 and already has one eye on Calzaghe's expected showdown with Hopkins.

When asked if he wanted to meet the winner, Jones said: "If Calzaghe wins yes. Hopkins don't want me I am not wasting my time with him.

"My probation period is over. I went through what I went through and now I am back. I don't care who he is.

"Call us, line up and tell us what you want. If we have to go over there to fight Joe, if we have to go back down south to fight Tarver, to Miami to fight Johnson, I don't give a cat's tooth.

"My name's Roy Jones, AKA Superman, I couldn't care less which guy the other side are bringing."

Jones would be prepared to travel to the UK to fight Calzaghe, a boxer he admires greatly.

"If they sign to fight on January 20, the day after I get out the ring having beaten Trinidad, if they sign to fight I am heading straight to the UK from New York," he said.

"Calzaghe is good, he's been doing his thing and I love him as a fighter. He's one of the best middleweights to come through. For me I try to be as fair as I can be. I look at people and the world.

"If Ricky Hatton came over here to fight Floyd Mayweather, maybe it's our turn to go over there and give them a big fight so we should go there and fight Calzaghe."

Jones has won his last two fights as he prepares to meet Trinidad and is confident of making that a hat-trick - and in a quick time too.

"I feel like I am really, really ready, i am fighting a guy who is smaller than me and I really can see myself knocking him out. Trust me, he's not going the distance with me," he said. I

"All this stuff about the fight going the distance. I can't take it, I can't see it. I am back now, my body is the way I want it to be and I guarantee he won't make 12 rounds with me.

"Career wise it wouldn't mean much to beat Trinidad - I must KO him, that's what I realise. I can't go 12 rounds with him, he's got to go. No win by decision, that would not be good enough for me at this time. he's got to go.

"I could be being bold, I could be crazy but the way I see it is this. Bernard Hopkins is not as good as me, Oscar De La Hoya, not as good as me, Fernando Vargas, not as good as me. In my mind none of those guys are my equal. They all stopped Trinidad and if I don't I'll be pretty mad."
