13.04.08 Tarver vs Dawson next? (video)

Antonio 'Magic Man' Tarver, began his belt collection at Light Heavyweight by taking Clinton Wood's IBF strap last night in Florida.

The decision went 116-112, 117-111 and 119-109 in a unanimous vote for the slicker, counter-punching Magic Man.

Clinton, despite being fit and strong, was basically out-boxed for the duration of the fight with only limited success on the ropes.

Round 12 saw the Sheffield man needing a KO to keep his title, yet didn't press the action and actually retreated from the Tampa man, who looked to close the show himself by backing up Woods with big punches and combinations.

Tarver, who was still fresh at the final bell, despite his 39 years of age, looks towards the WBC Champion 'Bad' Chad Dawson.

Dawson, who lived up to his moniker of 'Bad' in the detrimental sense looked anything but a world champion as he flustered and staggered his way to a gifted decision against the game Glencoffe Johnson.

Johnson, who never stopped coming forward throwing shots with spite, was cheered at the final bell, whilst Dawson was roundly boo'ed.

Upon the MC disclosing the result of 116-112 on all 3 judges scorecards in Dawson's favour, pretty much the entire audience stood and jeered the decision.

'Bad' Chad will certainly have to produce a better display than the tepid affair he produced last night if he wants to retain his WBC title against a rejuvenated Antonio Tarver.
