28.03.08 Witter offer to fight Hatton for FREE

Junior Witter recently told Setanta Sports that he'd happily fight the Manchester favourite for FREE :-

The WBC light-welterweight champion is likely to defend his title against Timothy Bradley in May but, like so many British fight fans, is impatient that a bout with Hatton has never materialised.

Hatton's main reason for not fighting Witter is that he does not want to give a man who has "slagged him off" throughout his career the biggest pay-day of his life.

Witter says money is not his biggest motivation for fighting Hatton though, and is so confident that beating the 'Hitman' will make his name, he will forego a pay-cheque for a contest with the Manchester-based fighter.

"I'm gutted that the fight hasn't come off," Witter told setantasports.com. "He's scared. He knows I'd whoop his ass. He's good, but he knows I'm better.

"I'm a fighter, I want to prove I'm the best out there.

"He's had 101 excuses. I haven't got a title, I have a title.

"I'm not box office, I am box office - I'm the WBC champion. I'm the best light-welterweight in the world. He's number two, three or four.

"He's now saying he doesn't want to give me a pay-day. Pay my training expenses and I'll come round and kick your ass in front of everybody for free.

"My people have got to get paid, my training expenses have got to be paid, but I'll do it for free.

"I can do that because I know I'm going to win."
